Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda's comments, alleging that the opposition party intends to implement an inheritance tax, targeting the wealth passed down from parents to children. Speaking at a poll rally in Chhattisgarh's Surguja, PM Modi accused the Congress of revealing its "dangerous intentions".

In his address, PM Modi took a dig at Pitroda's remarks, stating, "The Congress's advisor suggested taxing the middle class more, and now they aim to go further by seizing the hard-earned wealth that should rightfully pass down to your children. The Congress's agenda appears to be 'loot during your lifetime, loot after your death'," drawing parallels to Life Insurance Corporation's tagline, 'zindagi ke saath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi'.

However, Pitroda, chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, issued a clarification on social media, asserting that his comments on inheritance tax were misrepresented to divert attention from substantive issues. Pitroda in an interview to a TV channel had said that a group having wealth becomes so big that it influences govt. US has a monopoly act and wealth inheritance act.

"In America, there is an inheritance tax. If one has 100 million USD worth of wealth and when he dies he can only transfer probably 45 per cent to his children, 55 per cent is grabbed by the government. That's an interesting law. It says you in your generation, made wealth and you are leaving now, you must leave your wealth for the public, not all of it, half of it, which to me sounds fair," said Pitroda.
